This year some of the iconic events are back, and some new events. These are my top family-friendly Christmas events in Melbourne for 2021.

Christmas Square is once again bringing a Christmas Wonderland to Fed Square with the city’s iconic 16-metre light-up tree. There will be giant bell swings, neon trees, baubles and other festive decorations.

Santa’s Workshop

Santa and his elves are busy making toys in Santa’s Workshop. Come say hello to Santa and pose for a FREE photo from a Covid-safe distance.

Santa will be in his Workshop 10am to 12pm, then 1pm to 3pm every day until 24 December 2021. On Thursdays and Fridays in December, he’s also hard at work 4pm to 7pm.

Christmas Carols in Melbourne

Carols by Candlelight 2021

Melbourne’s beloved Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight will go ahead in 2021 with a live audience. The night will be hosted by David Campbell and Ally Langdon and will feature all your favourite Christmas songs. The event will raise funds and awareness for Vision Australia, which support kids who are blind or have low vision.

Channel 9 will broadcast the whole show live from 8pm on Christmas Eve, as well as a replay on Christmas Day.

Christmas at the Docklands

Docklands will light up with beautiful sparkling Christmas decorations including, the 8-metre tall golden Reindeer at Harbour Esplanade, Christmas crackers at the promenade and giant-present boxes with wrapping paper designed by primary school students. Families can also make their way through a giant present-themed maze at the Docklands Christmas Maze to help Santa find his elves.

Christmas Projections are returning to Melbourne City Centre in 2021. Melbourne Town Hall will come to life with five festive adornments and a countdown to the Christmas clock. Experience the 270-degree animated projection show across St Pauls Cathedral, Chapter House and Torrens University.

Epicure’s pastry chefs have been busy sculpting this year’s Gingerbread Village with over 600kg of gingerbread, 460kg of royal icing and 200kg of marzipan into some of Melbournes most iconic landmarks including, Luna Park, Federation Square, the Shrine of Remembrance and Royal Botanical Gardens.
