Melbourne’s Christmas Festival 2019

Melbourne’s Christmas Festival 2019 will light up Melbourne this festive season, with much-loved favourites and some brand new events.

The lighting of the 16-metre LED Christmas tree in Federation Square will mark the official start of the 2019 City of Melbourne Christmas Festival on Friday 29 November 2019 7pm–9pm at Christmas Square (Fed Square).

Every night of the Christmas Festival this beautiful 16-metre high LED Christmas tree will come to life with four spectacular light and sound shows.

Christmas Projections

This year’s Christmas Projections will be returning to the State Library Victoria with a very Melbourne Night Before Christmas, written by Marieke Hardy and narrated by Lee Lin Chin. Down the road, at the Melbourne Town Hall and Princes Bridge, there will be beautiful static Christmas projections.

As part of this year’s Christmas Festival, families are invited to Santa’s House at Christmas Square to take a photo with Santa for free.

Decorations around the city

The streets of Melbourne have been dressed in festive decorations  – with baubles, stars, bells and nutcrackers. For the first time, there will be a 6-metre tall giant mosaic reindeer in Docklands.

Carlton’s Argyle Square will transform into a free outdoor Christmas Cinema every Saturday night (30 Nov–21 Dec), films include The Muppets Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Holiday and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
