Winter activities and events for kids in Melbourne

As the days get colder, Melbourne will light up with some exciting winter activities and events for kids. The Winter Street Party is on in Werribee, the Waterfront Williamstown Winter Arts light experience, the Winter Night Markets and Christmas in July are back at Queen Vic Markets, Ice Skating on Acland Street St Kilda, The District Ice Slide is raising money for Kids Under Cover and last but not least the Firelight Festival will light up the sky at the Docklands.

Winter Street Party

The Wyndham City is hosting a wonderful ‘Winter Street Party’ on Friday 28 June 2019. Families can enjoy watching the city light up after dark with beautiful light installations, street performers, kids’ activities, music, light up dance floor, ice sculpting, glow-in-the-dark face painting, projections, roving circus acts and much more!

From glowing angels to twinkling fairies, hula hoopers and dazzling fire show, this year’s program will bring a touch of magic to Werribee City Centre. The Winter Street Party will be spread across five major precincts of Station Place, Watton Street, Comben Drive, Wedge St Piazza and the Wyndham Cultural Centre.

Waterfront Williamstown Winter Arts

Grab your jackets and beanies and bring the whole family to Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown to experience the award-winning arts group, ‘The Indirect Object’ create a spectacular light experience. There will be giant luminous roving firefly puppets and lantern making workshops for all ages. There will also be music to enjoy at the Rotunda each night.

Winter Night Market

The Winter Night Market is back on Wednesday nights at Queen Victoria Market. Warm-up your winter nights with some yummy street food, roaring fires, live entertainment and deliciously spiced mulled wine. Stroll around the market stalls or boogie at the silent disco.

SkatingAt Festival

SkatingAt is heading back to Acland Street in St Kilda these school holidays. Grab some skates and glide into this winter open-air ice rink. This fun family-friendly event is ideal for people of all ages and skill levels and offers something for everyone. If it’s your first time skating you can hire a Kanga Skate aid to help you along. Ice skating sessions are 45 minutes.

District Ice Slide

The District Docklands is welcoming back the ‘District Ice Slide‘ these school holidays. Kids can slide down a 15-metre long ice slide on a rubber tube. Kids can have fun while raising money for ‘Kids Under Cover’.

Firelight Festival

The Firelight Festival will light up the sky with evening fireworks, performances, flame jets, fire drums and delicious food to keep you warm. This year will feature over 40 free performances a night from Bollywood dancers to a Mariachi band, and much more. Each evening there will be a spectacular display of fireworks and after it goes dark keep an eye out for the new water and light show.
