Puffing Billy’s Train of Lights

Puffing Billy Railway’s Train of Lights is back for its fourth season — and it's one of Victoria’s most spectacular winter experiences.

Departing from Lakeside Station, this 2.5-hour return journey winds through the Dandenong Ranges to Gembrook aboard a heritage steam train, with open-sided carriages offering uninterrupted views of the illuminated forest. As night falls, the train transforms into a moving canvas of colour, brought to life with thousands of lights, vivid projections, and immersive patterns that dance through the trees.

At Gembrook Station, enjoy a 55-minute stopover filled with winter fun — think crackling fire pits, hot drinks, live music, photo opportunities, and friendly volunteers in vintage uniforms. The return leg offers a new perspective of the dazzling light display, making for a truly magical round trip.
