Scienceworks is launching the first-ever Science is a Superpower Festival, a two-day event featuring live science experiments, Q&As with Victorian STEM experts, and hands-on activities. With everything from Martian rovers to LEGO® engineering, this festival is designed for primary and early high school students, especially girls and non-binary tweens aged 10–12.
Taking place on 14 and 15 September 2024, the festival focuses on five themes: Calmness, Curiosity, Strength, Energy, and Kindness. All activities and the Planetarium and Lightning Theatre shows are included with entry.
Visitors can enjoy mini meditations in the Planetarium, explore the Think Ahead gallery with STEM experts, and participate in the Spot Talks—interactive interviews hosted by science communicators. There are also physical challenges in Sportsworks, hands-on fun in the Air Playground, and a collaborative art project focused on kindness.
The festival is part of Museums Victoria’s efforts to increase participation in STEM, particularly for girls, and is supported by additional Scienceworks programs like the Science is a Superpower web series and monthly Weekend Workshops.
