The Melbourne Fringe Festival XS in 2020 is embracing an online kids program that seeks the imagination and creativity of kids up to the age of 12. XS is all about dreaming into the future – what comes next? And what might happen if we let young people take the reins for a while? This year’s festival runs from 12–29 November 2020.
A Rain Walk invites audiences to step outside, whether in a drizzle or a deluge and experience an interactive walk accompanied by recorded voices of children from across Australia and New Zealand. With every ticket purchased, a gift box is posted to your letterbox containing everything needed to create your own private theatre as you walk through the rain. This international project is commissioned by Festival of Colour and Melbourne Fringe, with ArtPlay and House of Muchness. Suitable for all ages.

Over 60 Under 10 is a unique songwriting project led by Fringe favourite Sarah Ward (Yana Alana and Queen Kong) and Bec Matthews. Workshops are open to audience members over 60 years old and under 10 years old to create new music which will then be performed online by Sarah and her band on Friday 27 November.

Following an award-winning premiere season at Melbourne Fringe in 2019, Kid-aoke returns for an at-home virtual karaoke party not to be missed. Join Melbourne queer performance artist Bae Marie (Alex Morris – Musical Director, Choral Conductor and Music Educator) in a singalong designed especially for little ones aged 5–10. Kid-aoke is a safe, inclusive, and wacky space for kids to celebrate the fun of singing and to express who they are and how they feel. For ages 5+.
As part of Club Fringe at Home, join award-winning comedy duo Double Denim who will host a giggle-filled morning of surprises featuring music, dance and at-home treasure hunts and games. Kids Adventure Club is a participatory Zoom event set for Sunday 15 November. For ages 4+.
Mountain Goat Mountain guides families in an audio experience around their homes through a series of playful activities and an immersive soundscape. Step into an imaginary world to explore tunnels, lava pits and underwater caves without ever leaving your home. For ages 5+.

Club Fringe at Home also presents Kids Dance Club with Rawcus — an inclusive, celebratory dance party where the emphasis is on FUN. Perfect for kids, pets and your houseplants, boogie on down to some feel-good smash hits that’ll leave you sweaty and smiling from ear to ear. Suitable for all ages.
