Running alongside the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition, Pharaoh at NGV International, this interactive exhibition offers young visitors and their families a chance to discover the art and culture of ancient Egypt in a fun and engaging way.

Experience endless play at ACMI with the world-premiere exhibition, Beings. Featuring 13 artworks curated from the 20-year career of international art and design collective Universal Everything, Beings invites you to meet curious characters brought to life through code. Engage in movement, dance, and play to animate captivating creatures on large-scale screens. Immerse yourself in vibrant projected artworks that explore movement, emotion, and colour. Discover the creative process and innovation behind the artworks, with hand-drawn sketches on display for the first time.

Family Fiesta

Monash University Performing Arts Centre presents Family Fiesta, a celebration of children’s art and performance, from 3-6 July 2024. Enjoy a lineup of theatre, music, and art, all grounded in science. The main stage shows Little Blue Dot by Lemony S Puppet Theatre offers an engaging theatre experience for children and families. Comedian Dilruk Jayasinha hosts a cosmic concert, The Planets and Other Space Music. Special guest Scienceworks is bringing a chunk of real meteorite, for kids to wrap their hands around, and presenting two lunar-inspired experiences Lunar Station and Moon Moves. Interactive art installations Space Play and Star Weavers will fill the foyers. Pianist and composer Nat Bartsch plays her new album for pre-schoolers in the Sound Gallery, Forever, and No Time At All.  There are demonstrations of real Lunar and Mars rovers at the festival site, presented by the space engineering team Monash Nova Rover.

Playbound Festival

Presented by Museums Victoria in partnership with the City of Melbourne and other local organisations, Playbound is a new children’s festival running from 29 June to 14 July 2024. This 16-day event offers over 40 free and affordable programs, including performances, workshops, and activities across 14 city venues. Highlights include NAIDOC Week Family Day at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Peter and the Wolf with Inventi Ensemble at Melbourne Recital Centre, and The World is Lava, Please Calm Down at ArtPlay. Designed for children aged 0–12, Playbound encourages exploration through play-based learning, making the winter school holidays an unforgettable experience.
