The Arts have been hit particularly hard during the 2020 COVID restrictions in Melbourne, and we as a community are all slightly greyer due to their absence. These Summer School Holidays is a great time to take your family out to enjoy live shows in Melbourne to support our wonderfully talented and creative performers.

There are several kid-friendly shows to choose from – tumbledown the rabbit hole into a magical world with Alice in Wonderland, search for lost wings in Bubble Land with Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies, giggle at the riverbank with The Wind in the Willows or be in awe of the aerialists on the cloud-swing, trapeze and straps in Circus Under The Stars.

Circus Under The Stars

Circus Under The Stars is a spectacular circus cabaret show for the whole family featuring some of Australia’s finest, award-winning circus performers. Be amazed at the feats of strength shown by the aerialists on the cloud-swing, trapeze and straps, be wowed by the dexterity of the foot juggling queen and be blown away by the balancing maestro on the most impossible of objects.

Allow yourself to be charmed by the sublime vocals and strong wit of M.C, Aurora Kurth and soar to dazzling heights with all the artists, in a socially distanced CovidSafe Open-air theatre. A full hour of circus entertainment for the young and young at heart, with the majestic night sky as the backdrop.

Alice in Wonderland

Join Alice on her amazing journey through Wonderland and experience an adventure like no other at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre. Lewis Carroll’s classic story is cleverly lifted from the page and beautifully brought to life in Glenn Elston’s highly acclaimed production of Alice in Wonderland.

Life is turned upside down for Alice, and she takes the audience on a journey as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and lands in the magical world of Wonderland. It’s a roller-coaster of a story as she bravely bounces from one unexpected and amazing situation to the next.

The interactive production is fun for the whole family, presented in a bright performance style, with colourful costumes, interactive games and catchy songs.

The Wind in the Willows

Families are invited to join Ratty, Mole, Badger, Otter, Portly and Mr Toad as they bring Kenneth Grahame’s immortal story of life on the riverbank to the stage at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens.

The critically acclaimed, interactive outdoor theatre production delivers music, songs, and laughs. Children will giggle and howl at the characters’ mad antics, go on an adventure with Head Chief Rabbit, Ratty and Mole, then join a dangerous mission with the Rat Pack and Badger Patrol to rescue little, lost Portly the Otter from the Wild Wood.

Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies

Children and their families will be taken on an exciting musical adventure through a world of song and dance with Tinkerbell and her fairy friends from A Midsummer Night Dream. The show sees the cheeky Mustardseed, daring Cobweb and sweet Peaseblossom go on a magical quest with Tinkerbell, and help her find her lost wings in Bubble Land.

The audience is encouraged to join in the fun and attend the show in their favourite fancy dress: fairies, elves, Jedis, pirates and all other superheroes are welcome! Parents are encouraged to pack a picnic, pack the kids and make a day of the show at Ripponlea House and Gardens.
