Memo Akten's multi-screen work explores the merging of human and non-human consciousness through AI musings of octopus-like digital beings. Initially an NFT collection on the eco-friendly blockchain Tezos, Memo Akten's eight-channel video installation, Distributed Consciousness, features 256 unique images of octopus-like Tentacular Critters, created with custom AI/ML code by the artist.
Each image contains AI-generated text cryptographically encoded within it, known as a Verse. Invisible to the human eye but readable by code, these Verses form a poem, a book, and a manifesto. This human-machine collaboration reflects on themes like consciousness, free will, life, death, art, technology, ritual, ecology, economy, and sustainability. Each Verse was also released as an audio-visual reading.
