A Fashion Playground for Kids

At the heart of the exhibition is an illuminated disco dance floor, where children can show off their best moves beneath glittering disco balls. A playful jukebox encourages kids to dance freely, while bold fashion displays from Australian and international designers create a colourful and inspiring backdrop.

The exhibition features more than 35 garments and accessories from the NGV Collection, including works by Issey Miyake, Romance Was Born, Imane Ayissi, Lisa Waup x Verner, Nixi Killick, and haute couture designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Yves Saint Laurent. From voluminous gowns and experimental textures to punk-inspired outfits and surrealist millinery, the collection blurs the line between high fashion and joyful imagination.

Interactive Dress-Up Zone and Photobooth

Kids can step into the interactive dress-up zone, featuring costumes made by Melbourne designer Brynna Lowen. Shapes include hearts, stars, and lightning bolts, allowing children to immerse themselves in playful self-expression.

After dressing up, families can visit the photobooth, complete with custom lighting and mirrors, to snap a keepsake photo, strike a runway pose, or simply have fun showing off their party-ready looks.

Creative Workshops and Party Activities

The exhibition also features hands-on art activities, including a dedicated station for personalising party hats with sparkly stickers. These hats can be worn in the gallery and taken home, extending the festive and creative experience.

Expertly Designed by Danielle Brustman

Award-winning Australian designer Danielle Brustman has created a theatrical, immersive environment using glittering disco lighting, custom-designed wall treatments, carpets, and bold colour palettes. A key inspiration is Tomo Koizumi’s Look 27, a multicoloured ruffled organza ensemble from New York Fashion Week 2019, which reflects the joyful aesthetic throughout the exhibition.
