Review: Don’t Mess with the Dummies at Wonderland Spiegeltent

Don’t mess with the Dummies latest show – Lions and Tigers and Dummies, OH MY! is now playing at the Wonderland Spiegeltent, behind Federation Square, as part of this years Melbourne Fringe Festival.

This silly and unexpected show will leave you chuckling and smirking at the slapstick antics of three underprepared campers.

Lions and Tigers and Dummies, OH MY! is a camping experience like no other. When entering the Spiegeltent we were greeted by a cheerful ditsy camper with an oversized backpack. We took our seats at the front of the circular stage and tried to avoid eye contact with two other campers seeking snacks, as we discreetly nibbled on our sesame snacks.

The camper’s journey is filled with lots of physical humour.
What a refreshing and unexpected road this show careened down. The most ridiculous trapeze act I have ever seen was made funnier by the chance of seating next to a woman with a twinkle in her eye and the most contagious belly laugh you’ve ever heard.

Outcomes the pop-up tent, Hoola hoops, bananas, popcorn and sleeping bags. Hoola hooping, acrobatics, trapeze, juggling and a bit of double dutch to boot. These would be really awesome people to go camping with.

I will never look at a sleeping bag the same way again and I suspect whenever I hear ‘The lion sleeps tonight’ I will always have a smile and a fond thought for the Dummies.

Surprising and well worth a visit while they are in town.
