Shakespeare’s most haunting tragedy, Macbeth, comes to the stage in a powerful new production presented by the acclaimed Bell Shakespeare. This gripping retelling follows Macbeth, a celebrated Scottish general, whose ambition is ignited after a fateful encounter with three mysterious Weird Sisters who predict he will one day be king.
Driven by the prophecy and encouraged by his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth is consumed by ambition and certainty. Together, they commit a shocking murder that sets off a chain of events leading to paranoia, guilt, and the gradual collapse of their sanity. As blood is spilled, the consequences of their actions become impossible to escape, drawing them deeper into a dark psychological descent.
Directed by Peter Evans, this production stars Anthony Taufa in the title role alongside Matilda Ridgway, bringing a raw and intense energy to Shakespeare’s exploration of power, morality, and corruption. With design by Anna Tregloan and sound and composition by Max Lyandvert, the production delivers a striking theatrical experience that heightens the tension and psychological weight of the story.
