Situated in the magnificent Carlton Gardens and inside the Royal Exhibition Building, the show welcomes garden lovers of all ages with an exciting line-up of activities for budding green thumbs.
From giant Snakes and Ladders to life-size Jenga, and football target games, the Beyond Blue Charity Zone will provide endless fun for active feet. Those looking to take some time out and soak up their surroundings can get involved in daily gratitude and connection sessions by Wayapa Wuurrk, seed planting classes by Ceres, and draw and write to their heart’s content with free colouring worksheets.
Green thumbs will be spoiled for choice with 15-minute planter workshops at the Scotts Osmocote marquee and daily ‘bulb lasagna’ sessions at the Welcome Garden. Celebrating the biodiverse world of mini-beasts and pollinating bees, the Bug and Bloom Garden, presented by the Victorian Schools Garden Program, will allow little ones to discover the importance of insects with an immersive pollinator garden. Visitors can also get their hands dirty with potting sessions for edible plants which they can take home to nurture, grow, and enjoy.
The all new Home Grown Patch, presented by the Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria, will be bursting with vibrant veggies, fragrant flowers and lush greenery, providing the ultimate opportunity for families and schools to learn how to grow their own produce. The Patch will also showcase the creativity of a selection of Victorian students with the first Sustainable Scarecrow Competition.
Fascinating creepy crawly displays will be hosted by the Urban Plant Health Network alongside free educational advice on the good and bad bugs to look out for in suburban backyards. School kids and teachers can also submit their best insect photos into the draw to win pet spiny leaf insects and an enclosure for their classrooms!
