Family-friendly Moomba Festival 2023

The Moomba Festival will return to the banks of the Yarra River for five days of music, entertainment, watersports, Moomba Parade, and of course the famous Birdman Rally. The Moomba Festival will run from 9 – 13 March 2023, with a jam-packed program of FREE family-friendly events.

Moomba Carnival

The Moomba Carnival has something for everyone this year. Daredevils can get their thrills with the country’s best extreme rides on offer across Birrarung Marr and Little Land in Alexandra Gardens has rides perfect for the youngest Moomba visitors.

Birdman Rally

One of the highlights of the Moomba Festival is the Birdman Rally. The Birdman Rally will bring plenty of splashes, spills and thrills to the Yarra River. Melburnians will show off their inventive homemade flying devices in an attempt to soar the furthest over the Yarra River for a charity of their choice.

Skate Park

There will be loads going on at the skate park this year, with opportunities for families to come and watch skateboard, scoot, BMX and inline skating competitions featuring top athletes. Watch the BMX Skate Park Leagues National Final, Australian Skateboarding Leagues Melbourne Finals and the Scooter Skate Park Leagues National Final.

Moomba Parade

Since 1955, the Moomba Parade has captured the hearts and imaginations of Melburnians, bringing to life the vitality and energy of the beloved festival. The iconic parade will celebrate Melbourne in all its wonder, from larger-than-life floats, dance troupes, community performance groups and a special appearance from the Moomba Monarchs (Rob Mills and Rhonda Burchmore).

Moomba Masters Championship

The Moomba Masters Championship is unique to Moomba Festival and will see the best Australian and international water skiers and wakeboarders battle it out in a series of competitions on the Yarra.

There will also be a number of Ski Shows over the weekend where you can watch waterski acrobatics including pyramids, tricks and more.

Star Garden and Palms Lawn

The Star Garden and Palms Lawn will host a range of live performances and workshops over the 5-day festival.

Improve your moves with dance workshops at The Star Garden, including an African dance and drumming workshop, a Decades Dance workshop, a Hip-hop dance performance and workshop, a Latin dance workshop, Yoga for kids and much more.

Check out local bands, DJs and live acts at The Palm Lawn. The program includes MzRizk (DJ set), Sensible J (DJ set), Silent disco, HALO Vocal Ensemble performance, Bluey live interactive experience, Team Dream, Dr Hubble’s bubble show and much more.

Last but not least, each night there will be a spectacular fireworks display from 9.15 pm – 9.20 pm.
