If you have younger children who don’t enjoy scary Halloween events, look for daytime and family-friendly activities.
Some options for 2026 include:
Family-friendly Halloween activities, rides, entertainment, face painting and a costume competition at Luna Park.
A family Halloween night with science activities, costumes, trick-or-treating and entertainment.
A daytime Halloween event with scavenger hunts, crafts and games.

Older children and teenagers may enjoy Halloween events with more spooky elements.
Luna Dark’s night sessions feature scare attractions, live entertainment and roaming characters from 6 pm until midnight. The night sessions are separate from the family-friendly daytime events.
The Old Melbourne Gaol is also running a separate Halloween at Old Melbourne Gaol event on Saturday 31 October from 6 pm – 10 pm.
Check the age recommendations and event details before booking, particularly if your child doesn’t enjoy scary attractions.

You don’t need to attend a ticketed Halloween event to celebrate.
Other Halloween ideas for Melbourne families include:
Let the kids choose a costume and have a Halloween-themed afternoon at home.
Try pumpkin decorating, paper bats, ghosts, spiders and Halloween bunting.
Choose an age-appropriate spooky movie, make some Halloween snacks and settle in for the evening.
Hide Halloween-themed clues around the house, garden or local park.
