Japanese artist Misaki Kawai brings her playful dog characters to the NGV Kids Gallery as part of NGV Triennial. Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids is a colourful immersive play space inspired by dog parks and dog salons. Using her playful approach when making art, she has created a group of furry dog sculptures and multimedia activities for kids to enjoy.

Kawai is renowned for creating hyper-colourful and “Heta-Uma” (meaning bad but good) inspired installations made from paper-mâché, fabrics and craft materials.

Moja Moja Life by Misaki Kawai provides children with a creative and inspiring space to explore, play and imagine. The NGV’s participatory exhibition for children are developed to help our youngest visitors feel welcome at the gallery as well as giving them opportunities to actively participate in visual arts.

There are two main interactive play spaces Moja Moja Land and Piko Piko Station.

Moja Moja Land

Misaki has plenty of dog friends for kids to meet including, Potato, Raisin, Snowy, Max, Bertie and Poofy. Say hello to Arty, the gigantic dog who has hot pink fur.

A selection of these soft dog sculptures are interactive and come to life with animated facial expressions and sound effects. Kids can hear puppy sound effects when they step on the paw prints throughout the space.

Piko Piko Station

Drawing inspiration from Misaki childhood and her mother’s career as a clothing and puppet maker, she has created an interactive multimedia puppet show space. Kids can choose one of Misaki’s puppets to create their very own puppet show video. The final video can be downloaded and shared with friends and family.
