This $1.5 million sensory experience immerses families into the beautiful world of jellyfish, with over three zones filled with mesmerising displays. The exhibit gives kids the opportunity to get up close with various species of jellyfish including – lion’s mane, blue blubber, Australian spotted, upside down, sea nettle and moon jellyfish.
“Jellyfish are fascinating creatures that have been living in our oceans for over 500 million years. We look forward to enlightening our guests about various species of this ancient animal and, in the near future, we hope to reveal additional species that have never been seen in Australia aquariums.”
Paul Hale, Head of Curatorial at SEA LIFE Melbourne
On entering the dimly lit rooms, the wall graphics are striking and lead you through the exhibit. Educational interactive displays are spread throughout providing lots of fascinating information about the lifecycle of a jellyfish through simple touchscreen interfaces. Kids can draw their own digital jellyfish, which comes alive on the interactive wall.

This fascinating world of jellyfish had me mesmerised. Such beautiful dreamy and surreal creatures. They are like pulsating blobs, some float upside down and some float upright. They have no brain, no bones, no eyes, no heart and are potentially lethal. Some are translucent and some generate colourful flashes of light.
Ocean Invaders educates families about the causes behind the increasing population – or invasion – of certain species of jellyfish in our oceans and the actions people can take to limit these exponential and sometimes
problematic population increases.
This is an experience unlike any that I have had before, it was calming and beautiful to watch.
