Last weekend, I had the chance to experience 123Boom! with a group of five – a mix of teens and adults. This isn’t just an escape room; it’s a multi-room arcade style adventure packed with puzzles, physical challenges, and plenty of laughs.
The experience has six unique challenge rooms – Casual Chaos, Magic Matrix, Banana Ball, Loko Laser, Retro Runnerand K-Boom. Every activity has been designed to test your communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
As you approach 123Boom!, you are greeted by a hilarious street view of people experiencing the last challenge room called K-Boom! It’s a fun way to build anticipation and get everyone in the mood before you even step inside.
After check-in, each team member receives a yellow wristband, which allows you to activate the challenges in each room.
What to expect in each Challenge Room:
Room 1: Casual Chaos
The adventure begins with Casual Chaos – a multi-screen puzzle room where players must solve codes to progress. It took our team a few minutes to figure out how the puzzles worked, but once we got the hang of it, we were running around to complete it just in time. Communication was key here, as every player had to work together to crack the codes.
Next up was Magic Matrix, a dark room with glowing shape patterns on the walls. The objective? Use your body to highlight specific shapes and match them on the screen. It’s a great group challenge that required quick thinking and coordination.
Room 3: Banana Ball
In this room, we faced a fast-paced quiz game with a twist. Players had to throw brightly coloured balls at the wall to select the correct answers. The chaotic nature of this challenge had us laughing nonstop as balls flew everywhere in the race to answer each question.
Loko Laser was the team favourite. This high-tech arcade game featured multiple laser beams at varying heights and patterns. The goal was to navigate through the room without touching the lasers or the walls. Whether crawling under or jumping over, we all felt like secret agents in a Mission: Impossible movie.
Inspired by the popular “floor is lava” game, Retro Runner tested our balance and agility. Players had to avoid obstacles, bombs, and flying creatures in an arcade-style environment. It was a challenging but exciting way to keep the energy high as we approached the final stage.
Room 6: K-Boom Paint Room
The final challenge was the K-Boom Paint Room. Before entering, we were handed white plastic jumpsuits, which had us laughing before the challenge even began. Don’t wear your best clothes, as some paint might still sneak through. Armed with swishy mechanics, we had to click on specific shapes on a screen. If you missed, the paint sprayed everywhere. It seemed like the paint was going to fly out no matter what shapes you chose.
Age Requirement: 12+ (anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult; anyone between 15-17 attending without an adult must bring a pre-signed waiver form)
Group Size: Teams of 4–8 players, with private sessions for your group. Larger groups can be split into multiple sessions.
Duration: Approximately 75 minutes.
Clothing Tip: Wear something you don’t mind getting messy, especially for the paint room finale.
Location: 551 Little Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000
Final Thoughts: 123Boom! offers a fun and engaging experience for teens and adults. From solving puzzles and navigating laser challenges to the playful chaos of the paint room, it’s a great way to spend time with friends or family.
