New Owner

Arts Centre Melbourne presents New Owner by The Last Great Hunt, a gentle, wordless theatre experience told entirely through the eyes of a dog.

Combining puppetry, live action and animation, New Owner follows Bart, a shelter dog adopted by an older woman, Mabel, who is grieving the loss of her husband. Their bond is gentle but temporary. When Mabel’s time comes to an end, Bart is left alone and begins an emotional urban journey filled with strange encounters, danger, friendship, and small moments of kindness.

Told without dialogue, the production uses expressive puppetry and cinematic animation to explore themes of love, loss, loyalty and new beginnings, all from a dog’s perspective.

Nominated for Best Presentation for Children at the 2017 Helpmann Awards, the work is created by The Last Great Hunt, an internationally recognised collective known for inventive, visually rich storytelling that connects with audiences of all ages.
