Family-friendly program at Now or Never Festival

Melbourne is set to host the new Now or Never Festival, a 17-day event running from 17 August until 2 September 2023. The festival will showcase art trails, sculptural illuminations, projections, a pop-up dome cinema, and loads of family-friendly fun.

With more than 70 groundbreaking music performances, immersive digital art installations and daytime talks, Now or Never’s cutting-edge program will explore possibilities found where art and technology converge.

Art Trail

Stretching 1.2km along the Docklands promenade, this luminous outdoor gallery, curated by Experimenta, blurs the lines between the physical and digital realms. Visionary Australian and international artists’ works will inspire curiosity, from friendly AI-generated monsters to an epic light beam reaching towards eternity, inviting contemplation of our place in the future.

Neversphere

Experience Neversphere at the Melbourne Museum Plaza, a 360° screen wraps the curved interior walls of this pop-up planetarium. Recline on beanbags and enjoy this larger-than-life program of films. 

Family-friendly films include: Carriberrie, Solar System: A Wonderful Journey, Tilt, On the Blue Planet, Phantom of the Universe, Neversphere, Treasures of the Universe, Starlight, SEEING!, Capturing the Cosmos, Amazing Planet, Art Universe and Labyrinth + Samskara

SACRA: László Bordos

Don’t miss the world premiere of SACRA: by László Bordos at the Shrine of Remembrance. This immersive artwork reshapes the monument’s significance through time with 3D video mapping and breathtaking projections. Created by renowned artist Laszlo Bordos, SACRA pays homage to our past with stunning illuminations and bespoke sound design by Ondřej Skála.

Date: 1 – 2 September 2023

SACRA is unveiled every 30 minutes from 6.30 pm, with the final show commencing at 10.30 pm.
