A visit to the Myer Christmas Windows on Bourke Street has been a Melbourne holiday tradition since 1956. Now in its 69th year, the event continues to bring creative displays and storytelling to the city. In 2024, the Myer Christmas Windows present An Irwin’s Christmas Story, following previous themes like Santa at the Olympics, The Nutcracker, The Twelve Days of Christmas, and last year’s Bluey’s Christmas. Each year, the windows offer families a chance to enjoy carefully crafted displays that celebrate the festive season.

An Irwin’s Christmas Story, features a six-window display that follows Ace the Eagle as he explores Australia Zoo, crossing oceans and savannahs while encountering a variety of animals, including meerkats, elephants, tiger cubs, and crocodiles.

The story is narrated by Robert and Bindi Irwin, with their mother, Terri, also featured in the display. The creations took 12 months to complete, with 30 custom-built animatronic animal figurines designed to mimic natural movements.

It was lovely seeing the Irwin family and Australia Zoo celebrated in each window. Was it my favourite Myer Windows? Probably not. It’s hard to follow the cuteness of the 2023 Bluey’s Christmas. However, it’s still worth the trip into the city to experience this year’s display.
