Communities around Melbourne will come together on Tuesday 21 June 2022, to celebrate the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year, traditionally people light bonfires to ward off spirits and celebrate with ritual, music, wine and food. There are some beautiful Winter Solstice events in Melbourne this year.

Collingwood Children’s Farm’s famous Winter Solstice Bonfire will rise again on Saturday 25 June 2022. Bring your friends and family to help to celebrate Winter Solstice with live music, food trucks, lanterns, face-painting and storytelling. The Farm will be closed to visitors until 4pm on 25 June.

This year marks the 16th annual Belgrave Lantern Parade. The parade celebrates the Winter Solstice by bringing together the Hills community to celebrate friendship, light, warmth and creativity on the shortest day of winter. On the night hundreds of lanterns line the main street accompanied by drummers, dancers and performers. There will also be performers before and after the Parade, and the Parade Village will have a fire pits and food stalls.
Belgrave Library is hosting lantern making workshops ($10pp) from 11 – 17 June 2022.
